Tycho "Awake" certified gold

Tycho "Awake" mixed by Count has been certified 'gold'. When I first started working with Tycho I knew it wouldn't be something I worked on just becasue it was "work". I knew it would be something I actually listened to long after it's release. Several albums later, that is certainly still the case. What I did not release at the time was that millions of other people would also feel that way. After all, downtempo chill electronic music without vocals doesn't usually mean big hits. But this record apparently was a hit. This gold record now hanging on my wall indicates that my instincts about what is good are a lot more aligned with people than radio stations, record labels, and other industry gatekeepers would have you think. I'm glad to have been a part of these records.

When I was younger I was fortunate enough to work on a big album with No Doubt, but didn't bother to ask for my platinum record because I used to feel like these kinds of awards weren't why I chose to do music. I used to think that having these awards displayed was a little corny- almost like keeping your childhood trophies out on display as an adult. Now that I see this Tycho gold record on my wall next to DJ Shadow, I kind of feel like maybe I should ask for that framed No Doubt album now. It's not why I do music, but I admit that it doesn't feel bad at all to have them up on my wall.

Listen to Tycho's "Awake" here on Apple Music (not on Spotify becasue Spotify is a disgusting company founded by exploitative assholes seeking to get rich quick off the backs of musicians rather than building a sustainable platform for music).
