I recently wrapped up an interesting collaboration between Tycho and Interpol's Paul Banks.
Check out the song, Boundary Rider, on Apple Music here. Stylistically it's more stripped back, minimalistic, psychedelic rock, with a lot of open space compared to most Tycho songs. But surprisingly these kinds of songs can often be the hardest. Especially with artists like Tycho who generate an enormous amount of interesting sounds for any given song, it can be really challenging to strip things back to only what is essential. He did that incredibly well on this song, allowing each sound to have impact and allowing Paul's haunting vocals to have lots of space to really captivate. Although Zac's guitar is used sparingly, it's my favorite part of the song. When it comes in, it takes the song to a new level. And the art work is my favorite of any Tycho release. It draws you in to a story in a way that a great filmmaker can. Tycho's full breakdown of the production of the song is on instagram here.
